2008 winter / spring received average rain falls then it provided a roller coaster ride with bizarre weather extremes. Early January saw a heat wave lasting a fortnight then a record cool mid January to mid February was set to achieve great whites being produced. Then closer to harvest a record heat wave was upon us…
Wine Making
We hand harvested the small framed bunches once we had a cooling off period on March 14 for which during the dark hours of the morning we armed ourselves with the largest army of hand pickers (40) and have the whole bunch press free run juice only snap cold settled at 2 degrees with 5% solids for wild yeast ferment for 6 weeks. Pulled this first release of Schist Rock Riesling off with the hugest grin…Mouth watering experience.

Reviews

Ian Robertson Wine Without Wank July 09 Outstanding Quality / Outstanding Value

What a cracking wine. Lovely orange and lemon citrus tones, a subtle flintiness and a real length. Mouthfeel has a very slight hint of talcum powder. Acidity is zesty without being trying. I would drink this all day long
If alcohol did not have certain side effects!

Ralph Kyte-Powell The Age April 2009

The wine industry raves about riesling's sensational value. If you're not a convert, try this. It opens with aromas of lime juice, spice, florals and minerals. It's richly flavoured and broad in texture - typical Barossa riesling traits - and has good flavour definition, finishing fruity and dry.

Wine Spectator Nov 2008

Really vibrant, with pear, peach, melon and lime flavors from the first sip through the long, expressive finish., hinting at slate as this lingers. Impecable balance lets the flavors sing.

James Halliday Sept 2008

Spice and apple blossom aromas; very attractive flavour and mouthfeel, with apple, lime juice and tropical fruit.

Huon Hooke Sydney Morning Herald Sept 2008 'BARGAIN OF THE WEEK'

This is great value for the price, with good depth of flavour and a juicy palate, which is just off-dry.
Herbal, floral and confectionary aromas with a hint of geranium and a clean dry finish. A crowd-pleaser.

Tony Love The Advertiser July 2008

Pretty lime zest and juice from the start, with a splash of brown lime cordial, give this crisp and pure expression that suits and sits on the palate as it's chalky, minerally textures coat the mouth and a friendly natural acidity creates an almost spicy lift in the end.
Excellent value
